To celebrate Chinese New Year, we read several stories "Cleversticks" by Bernard Ashley, "Sam and the Lucky Money" by Karen Chinn, "Yoko" by Rosemary Wells, and "Lion Dancer- Ernie Wan's Chinese New Year " by Kate Waters and Madeline Slovenz-Low. Then, during centers we made lucky money envelopes (and money to go inside), dragon masks, and we learned all about the chinese symbols and figured out which one each of us is. During math we made dragons using 2-D and 3-D shapes. Later in the day, we practiced using chopsticks and read our fortunes after eating a fortune cookie. Gung hay fat choy! Happy New Year!
