Sand Paper, Sawdust, & Wood Chips

Today in science we used sand paper to alter the shape of pieces of basswood. As we sanded, we watch the sawdust accumulate on paper plates. We figured out that the light colored pieces were from the wood and the small black dots were from the sandpaper.

Then, we explored sawdust and wood chips. After examining them, we mixed them together and observed what happened. We will be using this mixture next week when we make particleboard.

This week we are focusing on the concept of "Setting" during language arts. When reading at home, please discuss the setting of the story (where the story takes place).
