This afternoon after Art, we were settling down to read a story when one of the students said "Ms. Shapiro, I just lost my tooth!"  He was so excited to add a tally to our Tooth Tally chart.  It was his second lost tooth of the year!

Fun Friday!

Wow, today was the best day we have had all year! We started off with another student losing his tooth! This time it happened during DEAR time while he was at the computer. He was SO excited! During word work, we used shaving cream to practice spelling our weekly words on our tables. Then, we took our giant jumprope with us during PAT time and the children took turns jumping. We also had a very special guest reader, a pirate! See the other entries for today to find out about the rest of our Fun Friday!

Tooth Tally

During the year, we will keep a tally of how many children lose teeth during the month. Today, we were able to add our first tally of the year! One of our students lost his tooth! It's fun to see which months had the most missing teeth. Let's see if we'll have more than 1 in September!

Look Who Lost a Tooth!

Wow, we are only 9 days into May and we have beat our record for the most lost teeth. Can you believe 5 children lost a tooth in ONE day?! That has to be a school record! I guess we can only serve them ice cream. applesauce, and yogurt. Who's going to be next?

Landforms, Organisms, & Lost Teeth

In Social Studies, after learning about our place in the world, we learned about landforms. Each child created their own flip book about the landforms on earth. Our finished products are proudly hanging in the hallway.

Next, we began talking about organisms, living things, in science. Students identified organisms and explained what they need to survive.

We also had the first two teeth lost of 2008!

Lost Tooth & Word Wall Detective

We had our first lost tooth of November! Say cheese!

During Word Work we played Word Wall Detective. For each riddle, I gave the students three clues. They had to write down which words it could be and slowly eliminate the words to find the correct one. For example:
Clue 1. It has the letter h in it.
Clue 2. It has 3 letters.
Clue 3. It rhymes with cow.
What is it?
HOW!
