The Colors of Us

Did you know that no one is really the color black or the color white, but we are all shades of brown?!

We read the book The Colors of Us. In the book, a little girl learns that everyone around her are all shades of brown--cinnamon, peach, coffee, toffee, pizza crust, and more! Then we looked at our skin and we decided which shades of brown we are! The students then painted a large oval or circle to create their face. Next week we will add their facial features--eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, and more! When they are finished, we will hang them up all year long in the classroom. This is one of my favorite activities that we do all year!

We continued to work on our faces on Monday and they are so wonderful! Here are a few in progress.
